    Giving it another go

You do right to give it another go. Don't worry about a bit of rain, it's all good fun. February 2013.

    Weird electrics

Could be a bad earth, or like my plugs last year. I had a side light out, new bulb, still out. I had to change both plugs for a 13 pin plug anyway; the black plug when unscrewed, fell apart, all the pins were rusty, same with the grey, I did wonder how I had any power to the caravan at all...

    Caravan loading and nose weight

Apart from a caravan stability point of view, noseweight is set by the car manufacturer and takes into account the car body structure, suspension and towbar fixing points. If those are overloaded think what may happen to the suspension and worst still the actual mounting points, also the cars...

    Caravan loading and nose weight

The information is in the Caravan Club handbook, also see my link above, Caravan Club info sheet which is dated Feb 2013. Seems that caravan noseweights are getting heavy, so 5-7% gives a good chance of getting the weight within the cars limit. With my noseweight, I am just over 6%, at 7% my...

    Caravan loading and nose weight

Another important thing to remember once hitched up, the caravan noseweight on the towball becomes part of the cars payload, something to consider so you do not overload the car.

    Caravan loading and nose weight

Always check mine, every time I hitch up, 75kg. Highly recommend the Milenco gauge. PhilHo if I may, the recommended noseweight should be 5% to 7% of the actual loaded weight of the caravan (MTPLM) with a legal minimum of 4%. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1zy48ttzqabrzqz/noseweights 2013.pdf...

    New to caravan holidaying

Hi David A good tip for winter caravanning. Always fill the kettle last thing at night, then if the pipes / aquarole are frozen and no water, you can still make that early morning brew.:)

Willow Farm, New Leake, Boston. Lincolnshire.

Having had two winter weekends away cancelled due to floods, we decided to get off for a long weekend in February staying at a five van site in Lincolnshire. Snow and more rain a couple of days before setting off, but still a firm pitch on arrival. At least plenty of sunshine with frosty...

    Towing

Hi Milenco Aero mirrors are very good, they just clamp (2) onto the top lip of the cars mirror, also vibration free. If you do a search you may be able to find an Apache Monaco porch awning, easy to put up by 1 person with room for 2, chairs, table and dogs or grandchildren.

    MPG Whilst Towing

I have a 2.0TDi and when towing with bikes on the car roof, averaged 34mpg doing just over 2,038 towing miles on motorways; Yorkshire to Prague and back. On a 314 mile stretch at 50/55mph with Ultimate diesel in the tank; got 37mpg, German & Czech motorway.

Škoda - The Ultimate (future) Towcar? 0% emissions, it just needs bigger batteries!

It did see it parked up at Prague Castle. Also found this information on the web: Škoda has unveiled its first all-electric car early this year, 0%emissions, the Octavia E Line. Don't get too attached though, because you won't be able to buy it. This model is merely a test mule for the...

    Sprite 400 -1961

Some photo’s of my late dad’s Sprite 400, photo taken in the mid 70’s. Tow car Hillman Minx. Equipment, very basic: Sink with one tap and cold water, operated by a foot pump. Two burner gas hob and grill. Two gas lights. That’s it. The gas bottle locker may have been added on later, not...

Škoda Owners – The Green Winged Arrow!

I have the Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4 and have found it be a very good towcar for the lighter caravan. For me and my choice, was not to own a heavy caravan needing a big heavy towcar, but I also wanted that extra traction when on a wet rally field or 5 van site and with good fuel economy. My...
