My name is David and I have been caravanning for almost 40 years. I would not call my self over experienced, just someone who drags the Wendy house out a few times each year. Nearly always spend 1 long holiday in France each year, either on the west coast or down south. In addition we now use it for taking the children to university and back twice a year as well as week ends away.
I am involved with classic car trialling and spend most of my spare time behind a computer in an organising role.
I have some useful contacts for motorhome, caravan body repairs and home servicing in the Taunton area if needed.

Hi David,

Welcome to the Club! That looks like the kind of Ford Escort I learned to drive in.

Hello PhilHo, Ahh looks can be deceiving! Standing on level ground, in profile it looked similar until you spotted that it stood about 2 inches taller, and had 2 spare wheels on the boot lid. A 1600 engine, lower dif ratio, this was a trialling Escort. Sadly no longer with us, and to replace it today would cost not less than £4000 providing you were an ace mechanic and body builder. Recently a rusted body shell and a box of bits sold for £4.500. A very clean road going Escort these days is worth £9000 of anbodys money!!!!!!! It is now in the realms of " Oh, I wish I had never sold it"!!!

I remember the one I learned in was a yellow "Sport" model. The instructor a Mr Stokes taught me to drive fast safely between home and Buxton in the Peak District. I guess he thought that as I was probably going to drive fast I might as well learn how to do it well. He did me a major favour until they invented speed cameras.
